In 2015, the AUCA board decided to update its existing equipment every five years. The main task facing the IT specialists was to replace outdated equipment with modern equipment in order to improve the performance of the local network.

Before the modernization began, AUCA users periodically encountered network failures. During video conferences with lecturers from abroad the signal could drop, there were disconnections, and user devices did not always switch perfectly from one access point to another. "Curious" students periodically tried to test the university's information security system by staging Man in the Middle attacks.

The access points used previously were designed for 20–25 simultaneous connections each - these resources were not enough for the university. After successful testing during a pilot project, the university proceeded to purchase Cisco Aironet 2800 access points designed for 200 active connections. The difference compared with the previous equipment is almost tenfold.

A Cisco 5508 controller was installed for centralized management of the access points. This made it possible to segment users and grant them network access depending on their profile. Today, AUCA with its 110 access points is served by just three network administrators, despite the fact that the university is an Enterprise-class building.
